![]() ![]() There is no bullying mean girl, oafish buddy, or evil adult authority figure. I really appreciated how the movie avoids stereotyping the characters. The story is about a young girl working to fulfill her dreams, and the conflict arises as her parents pull her in different directions, tragedy strikes someone dear to her, and she faces rejection along her path. It is beautifully filmed, with many gorgeous shots of coastal California woven into the story. The young actors acquit themselves especially well. The cinematography is wonderful some of the studio scenes are almost magical. The film also deals with friendship, jealousy, classroom rivalry and inspiration in the form of a real-life role model.Īlmost incidentally, Hope Dances also celebrates the natural beauty of Santa Cruz, from the quaint streets to the boardwalk, from the coastal cliffs to the forest. Her mother Is adamant about Hope's prospects in ballet, pushing her to work harder and take her studies more seriously. Her father would rather she pour her physical energies into baseball, at which she also excels. On the way to that goal, she hopes to play the lead role in the yearly production of the Nutcracker. Young Hope wants one day to become a professional ballet dancer. Hope Dances is a sweet family movie that celebrates the unabashed dreams of youth and the audacity to pursue them. Reviewed by daphneo2002 9 / 10 A Sweet Family Movie and a Visual Treat In the end, Hope has to figure it all out on her own does she 'Dance' around her Problems or does she 'Swing for the Fences' and be True to herself and ultimately learn to Trust in 'Her Dreams'? Will Hope make the right decision or maybe she figures out a way to Have it All. Lucky Hope has a couple of friends who are so supportive, until one becomes the competition, and the other who wants to be so supportive, she is willing to step aside so Hope can succeed. But what to choose, sports but maybe let down mom or dance, and crush dad's dreams for you. Problem is, when one parent wants sports for you and the other wants dance, ultimately it is YOU that has to make the decision and chose one. Hope Douglass, Ballet Dancer, Softball Player, talented at both but finds as you get older, school work, house chores and 'The Reality of Everyday Life' kick in and all of a sudden it's not enough to just be good at two things when people are telling you that you can be great at one thing. ![]()
